Also known as Central American mahogany. The heartwood varies from light to dark reddish-brown to deep rich red. The grain is straight and interlocked. The wood has low bending strength.? It has moderately good steam bending properties. Polishes to an excellent finish. Used for high-class furniture and competes in looks with American black cherry. Specific Gravity .62. 34 lbs/cu ft.
